Deborah comes to us from Jacksonville, NC. Her topic includes her writing process and how important developing routines for writing, revising and submitting to journals has been to her and should be to other writers.

She is an English Instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC, and has been for the past 16+ years. The various courses she teaches include: college composition, developmental English and reading, college success, Creative Writing and literature surveys. She's also a faculty editor of the New River Anthology, co-chair of the Books-to-Movies Discussion series, among many other tasks.

She has lived in lots of different places but now calls North Carolina home. She has a BA from the University of Colorado, an MA from George Washington University, an MFA from San Diego State University.   She's written two chapbooks, No Crazy Notions and That Echo, that have won the Mary Belle Campbell and Long Leaf Press Award, respectively.  She has had more than 350 poems published in literary magazines, with some most recently having appeared or will soon appear in Atlanta Review, Bear Creek Haiku, Edge, Oberon, Pinyon, Seems and TAB: The Journal of Poetry and Poetics.

She is an avid print-maker, and has put together a small collection of hand-made limited edition book art.

She is married to a retired Marine, has a son and a daughter and three grandchildren.

When not teaching or writing, she volunteers as a Wildlife Rehabilitator.

She and her husband currently share their house with four cats and a backyard full of birds.
